ABOUT WOMEN VENDORS NETWORK

The Women Vendors Network (WOVNET) was established to provide networking
opportunities to women vendors in Uganda. WOVNET continues to evolve and
embrace today’s women in business. WOVNET is a forward-thinking, inspiring
organization, that supports and celebrates the growth and success of all members.
Member volunteers work on committees, creating opportunities and an environment that
helps them grow. WOVNET supports women vendors to earn and save money,
improve health and well-being, influence decisions in their home and community, and
connect to networks for support. By utilizing skills, knowledge, and resources, Women
vendors are able to create sustainable change for themselves, their families and
community.
As an association of women workers and vendors, WOVNET leverages collective
action to supply training on financial planning, occupational health and safety, and to
carry out advocacy work to enhance social protections and negotiate financial aid. For
example, WOVNET created a savings account for the association’s members, the
WOVNET Bank, to provide more financial security in the face of precarity.

What we do

WOVNET’s work has facilitated a more vibrant local civil society. Shallot represents vendors
on the Women Vendors Committee in the Bushenyi District. Although this committee is
technically separate from WOVNET, Shallot applies knowledge she learned from
WOVNET training to navigate complicated procedures that women vendors go through to
get registered by local authorities
